In recent years, women have been discovering the finishing industry . We're seeing an increase in the number of women working in the finishing sector. This is a fantastic development, as the finishing industry has always been male-dominated. Women have now more than proven that they are not only capable of entering the sector but also excelling in their work.
The numbers
The percentage of women in the Dutch construction industry is around nine percent. Not a great figure, but a campaign is underway to increase this percentage. And it's working! Half of the construction students at universities are now women. This offers excellent prospects for the construction industry.
Why is this suddenly possible now?
Besides the campaign , a key factor contributing to the increase in women is the changing attitude toward gender equality in the workplace. It's a societal norm for companies to become more inclusive, and they therefore strive for a diverse team. Furthermore, women (and men) are aware of the qualities and skills women can bring to the construction industry. They are accurate, precise, creative, and innovative, making them valuable employees for companies. Women know their worth and are increasingly venturing onto the construction site.
What will change for the company?
A major advantage of women in the construction industry is the positive impact they have on work culture and atmosphere. Women are communicative and empathetic. This makes them excellent team players, which can lead to a more inclusive and supportive work environment.
