Circular construction at System Flex: From waste to valuable raw material
System Flex is committed to innovation every day, especially in the area of sustainability. We believe that the spaces we create today shouldn't come at the expense of tomorrow's world. By critically examining material consumption and energy efficiency, we combat waste and actively contribute to a healthy, circular future.
The importance of a circular economy in construction
The need for a circular economy is greater than ever. Reducing material waste is essential to prevent the depletion of natural resources and lower CO2 emissions. The construction sector plays a key role in this; although it produces a significant amount of waste, it is also a leader in recycling. At System Flex, however, we go a step further than just recycling: we look at the high-quality reuse of components.

High-quality reuse of materials at RUD Utrecht.
Our approach: Cradle2Cradle and dismantling
Whether it's in our factory or on-site at a project, circularity is in our DNA. We strictly separate waste, but more importantly, we disassemble and strip systems on-site to ensure the materials retain their value. These components are used in new projects or given a second life in other sectors. Thanks to this innovative approach and our collaboration with partners, System Flex proudly carries the Cradle2Cradle certification.
Circularity in practice: Provincial House of Utrecht
A striking example of our circular vision is the project for the Regional Implementation Agency (RUD) in Utrecht, located in the provincial government building. Here, we created new spaces using materials from the existing building. By installing both new and reused pivot doors, the expansion seamlessly integrates with the existing interior. This resulted in significant cost savings and prevented unnecessary waste of high-quality materials.
Curious which materials from your current office are suitable for reuse in a new design? We'd be happy to help you develop a sustainable and cost-effective solution.
